The excitement builds as the rezoning project heads towards final approval from the City of Vancouver. We are hopeful that in January our rezoning application will be scheduled for a public hearing and vote by the City council. We will let you know when the hearing is scheduled so that you can attend the council meeting to show your public support for our redevelopment.
The project that we are embarking upon will be “green” in many respect of design, construction and operation. We are currently working with consultants who are looking at the heating and cooling options available for our redevelopment.
The study is part of Vancouver’s rezoning requirements for trying to ensure new development are eco-friendly. The study will look at things that will:
• Reduce the dependence of the area buildings on traditional energy technologies.
• Reduce demand on the electrical grid.
• Reduce the overall greenhouse gas emissions of the area buildings.
• Provide cost-effective energy alternative for the area buildings.
In addition, connection to a district energy system at BC Children’s and Women’s Hospital will be investigated.
