Update # 2 - December 2009

Update December 2009

Dreams! Some think of dreams as delusions or fantasies, a day dreamer being someone given to wasting time. But if we did not dream would we ever create?  Do we need to have a dream in order to inspire ourselves to take action?  Would we have airplanes or cars if the inventors never dreamed about them? Would the modern state of Israel exist if we did not first have the dream to create a homeland for Jews?

So have you ever dreamt about:

-          The synagogue your children and grandchildren will laugh, play, learn, celebrate and remember in

-          A chapel and sanctuary , a social hall and multipurpose spaces with flexible spaces to help create the warmth of Beth Israel no matter the size of the gathering

-          A place for you to relax, chat, share and contemplate with your friends and family in an environment that:  speaks of our collective past and bright future and reflects your Jewish soul.

-          A sanctuary seating the congregation together for the High Holidays with every seat being close to the bimah

-          A synagogue that allows for people with varied disabilities, for families with strollers or walker or wheel chairs to have unimpeded access to all areas

-          A welcoming foyer with spaces to have a coffee or tea while waiting for a friend, picking up a grandchild or just taking some moments to catch your breath and reflect

-          A social hall that could handle large and small functions in a space better than a hotel can offer

-          A bimah facing east

-          A synagogue that is warm in the winter and cool in the summer

-          A place for our congregation that embraces the best in being an energy- efficient and “green” synagogue.

-          A secure parking area to allow for easier access by seniors and families with young children

-          A ….. ( this is where you can add in your dreams for a new Beth Israel synagogue)

And now some of our dreamers are also in the midst of creating the opportunities for each of us to make our dreams for BI come true.  It won’t be easy- but most things that are of value require us to put a lot of effort into the endeavor.

Are we just a bunch of day dreamers?  I will let you decide; because it really is up to each of you to determine whether this is a fantasy or our next reality

DO YOU HAVE A DREAM ABOUT THE NEXT HOME FOR BI?   JUST IMAGINE… AND SEND ME THAT DREAM AT SHANNON@BETHISRAEL.CA  SO I CAN SHARE IT WITH OUR SITE REGENERATION AND CAPITAL CAMPAIGN COMMITTEES.
