Bar & Bat Mitzvah

At the beginning of 2011 it will be time to start thinking about the celebration of your child's Bar/Bat Mitzvah in the year 2013. Beth Israel  policy is that only members can celebrate Bnai Mitzvah at the Synagogue.

In order to have a Shabbat Bar/Bat Mitzvah a child must have attended religious school or its equivalent for six years. Members may schedule a Bar/Bat Mitzvah on any day on which the Torah is read, this includes Shabbat, Monday or Thursday morning, or on the morning of a Rosh Hodesh (the first day of a Hebrew month).

Two children may share a date and have their Bar/Bat Mitzvahs together and we encourage families to make such arrangements for their children if so desired.

Letters will be sent to members with children who will have a 13th birthday in 2013 in March of 2011. Bar and Bat mitzvah dates are assigned by a committee of the BI Board of Directors in consultation with the Rabbi.
