Judaism doesn’t shy away from death, rather it provides us with a guideline on how to handle it. To read more about death and mourning click here.

The Beth Israel cemetery is located at 1721 Willingdon Avenue, Burnaby. Click here to read about our cemetery. If you are considering reserving a cemetery plot please contact Tovah at tovah@bethisrael.ca.

In the event of a death:

  1. Please contact Rev. Joseph Marciano, Funeral Director of the Chevra Kadisha at 604-603-7164. The Chevra Kadisha works with the family and covers all details related to the ritual cleaning of the body and it’s transportation.
  2. If you are a member of Beth Israel, contact the office at 604-731-161 during business hours. If you are calling after hours please listen to the message. You will be told how to contact the Rabbi.

A Measure of Mourning – A Guide for the Bereaved is available at the synagogue office. Another important source is the book: The Jewish Way in Death and Mourning by Maurice Lamm.

If you have any questions about funerals please contact Tovah at tovah@bethisrael.ca
