Beth Israel's Torah Dedication Project - As it is Written

Our Torah is the very heart of Judaism. Ever since we became a people, our Torah has been an immeasurable source of spiritual strength, connecting us to each other and to God.

The 613th mitzvah of the Torah is the obligation for every Jew to write a Torah scroll. In the words of the verse: "And now, write for yourselves this song, and teach it to the Children of Israel. Place it into their mouths, in order that this song will be for Me as a witness for the children of Israel." (Deut. 31:19)

As It Is Written is a once in a lifetime opportunity to join together as a congregation to fulfill the 613th commandment.

Congregation Beth Israel has been blessed to receive a generous gift of a new Sefer Torah with the opportunity for our members to complete it by scribing the last 100 letters. Under the guidance of sofer (scribe), Rabbi Moshe Druin, of Florida, families will participate in scribing and other exciting and enriching activities for all ages, over the course of three days in February.

February 19, 20, and 21, 2016 Program - Scribing

As there are only 100 opportunities to scribe the final letters, families will enter a lottery to be selected.

Selected families will come for approximately 2 hour time windows during the scribing sessions on the weekend. A volunteer guide will lead them through a variety of educational, exciting and meaningful activities prior to scribing. During scribing, there will be an opportunity for a professional photograph to be taken to capture this experience.

Scribing sessions are as follows:

-Friday Feb 19 – morning – 8.15 a.m. – noon
-Saturday Feb 20 – after Shabbat – 6.30 p.m. – 9.00 p.m.
-Sunday Feb 21 – all day – 8.15 a.m. – 6 p.m.
