We are delighted to be able to provide a meaningful and personally enriching opportunity to children & families for this important lifecycle event.

Beth Israel’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah program ensures that each child is prepared for this rite-of-passage based on his/her requirements and talents and helps prepare them for the rest of their Jewish life. The program including lessons with Debby Fenson, our Ba’alat Tefillah. Each child has five sessions with the Rabbi to prepare their D’var Torah (teachings from the Bible). Our clergy is available to answer any and all of your questions.

Requirements

Members may schedule a Bar/Bat Mitzvah on any day on which the Torah is read, this includes Shabbat, Monday or Thursday morning, or on the morning of a Rosh Hodesh (the first day of a Hebrew month). A Bar/Bat Mitzvah can also be conducted during Shabbat Mincha/Maariv/Havdalah services (Havdalah services in the winter months only).

Two children may share a date and have their Bar/Bat Mitzvahs together and we encourage families to make such arrangements for their children if so desired.

Bar and Bat Mitzvah dates are assigned by a committee of the BI Board of Directors in consultation with the Rabbi. For more information please call the office at 604 731-4161 or email tovah@bethisrael.ca.
