“T&T”, also known more formally as Tallit and Tefillin, is our Bar and Bat Mitzvah preparation program.

The T&T program is at the heart of Beth Israel’s Bar and Bat Mitzvah preparation. We have a dynamic program that encompasses Shabbat family programs, ḥesed programs and student only weeknight classes. Individual instruction, group activities and study let you explore and question what your religion is about. This isn’t school. It’s an adventure in the making!

Shabbat services, an integral part of Bar and Bat Mitzvah preparation, are intended for the whole family. This means that siblings are welcome and encouraged to come. There will always be childcare for younger siblings who are not participating in the main program.

Requirements

Members may schedule a Bar/Bat Mitzvah on any day on which the Torah is read, this includes Shabbat, Monday or Thursday morning, or on the morning of a Rosh Hodesh (the first day of a Hebrew month). A Bar/Bat Mitzvah can also be conducted during Shabbat Mincha/Maariv/Havdalah services in the winter months.

Two children may share a date and have their Bar/Bat Mitzvahs together and we encourage families to make such arrangements for their children if so desired.

Bar and Bat Mitzvah dates are assigned by a committee of the BI Board of Directors in consultation with the Rabbi. For more information please call the office at 604 731-4161 or email tovah@bethisrael.ca.
